BTS PASTORAL LETTER 2 March 2020

 

Text: Psalm 9:3-5

Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
3  When my enemies turn back,
They shall fall and perish at Your presence.
4  For You have maintained my right and my cause;
You sat on the throne judging in righteousness.
5  You have rebuked the nations,
You have destroyed the wicked;
You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
Psalm 9:3-5

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. Enemies
a) Historically
i) Philistines
ii) Dwellers of Canaan (Ammonite, Moabites)
b) Symbolically (applicable in any country/ generation)
i) The wicked
ii) The unrighteous
iii) The unfaithful and hypocritical

2. The final outcome of the wicked
a) They will fall
b) They will perish at God’s presence
3. God is the Sovereign Judge
a) He sits on His throne of judgment
b) He will judge righteously

c) He has authority over all nations in the world
d) He will destroy the wicked
e) He will blot out their names
i) There is no remembrance of their name
ii) They will perish in shame and dishonour

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. King David’s example
a) He knew that God had maintained his cause
b) He was not like his enemies
i) Cruel
ii) Wicked
iii) Unrighteous

2. Our challenge
a) To walk uprightly
b) To pray that God would maintain us
c) To trust that God would defend us
d) To cultivate further:
i) Our knowledge of God
ii) Our faith in Him
iii) Our courage to stand for the truth
