LIKE PRECIOUS FAITH

1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,

through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that

through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped

the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:1-4

1. Obtaining a precious Faith

a) We must be sure that we have obtained this Faith!

b) It is obtained by the righteousness of God and the Lord Jesus

c) It is a very precious faith

d) By it, we have escaped the corruption of the world

e) This Faith is of the same kind the Apostles possessed!

2. The Power of this Faith

a) It is to be found in the knowledge of God

b) Divine power is available

i) Power pertaining to life and godliness

ii) Great and precious promises

iii) Partakers of the divine nature

c) The Challenge is obvious

i) We need to cultivate our knowledge of God

ii) Through this knowledge, the blessings of God would come

 

ADDING TO THIS PRECIOUS FAITH

5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful

in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8

a) We need to add to our Faith

b) Diligence is necessary

c) A List of things to add to our Faith

i) Virtue

ii) Knowledge

iii) Self-control

iv) Perseverance

v) Godliness

vi) Brotherly kindness

vii) Love

 

IF THESE THINGS ARE CULTIVATED

1. If they are personalised

2. If they abound

3. There will never be barrenness

4. Nor unfruitfulness 2 Peter 1:8

 

WHAT IF WE LACK THESE THINGS?

9 For he who lacks these things is short-sighted, even to blindness, and has

forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 2 Peter 1:9

1. We are short-sighted

2. We are par-blind

3. We have forgotten too much

 

CONCLUSION

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

b) Check Knowledge of God

c) Check Faith-life

d) Check Fruitfulness
