WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 3 October 2021

 

Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION

13 Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind
of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

Ephesians 4:13-14

 

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. Clear and definite Goals to bear in mind

a) To equip the church

i) Leaders
ii) Members

b) Unity of the faith

i) There are so many things that divide the church
ii) The goal should be Unity and not division

c) Knowledge of the Son of Man

i) There is so much to learn about the Lord Jesus
ii) His Messages
iii) His Mission
iv) The Gospels are so poorly studied and understood

d) To a perfect man

i) The word “perfect” does not mean sinlessness
ii) It points rather to “full maturity”
iii) So many are immature in their faith

iv) This includes church leaders

e) The measure of the fullness of Christ

i) The Lord Jesus is our clear and wonderful example
ii) He was full of knowledge
iii) He was full of faith
iv) He was full of the Spirit

2. An awareness of the problems facing the church

a) Many are children in faith
b) They are easily tossed to and fro
c) Every wind of doctrine affects believers easily
d) Many are easily tricked
e) Many are crafty
f) Many are deceitful

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. We need to become spiritually mature

a) This is a goal we must seek to fulfill
b) So many years have been wasted already

2. We need to become better pastors-teachers

a) Deep knowledge
b) Skilled in preaching
c) Skilled in equipping church members
