WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 22 November 2020

 

Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION
11  For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,  12  teaching
us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly in the present age,
Titus 2:11-12

 

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. The salvation of God

a) Out of the grace of God
b) Towards all men

2. Understanding its Implications I

a) With reference to Sin

i) Ungodliness
ii) Worldly lusts

b) Sin is to be repented of

i) Sin is to be avoided
ii) There cannot be a life of sin

 

3. Understanding its Implications II

a) With reference to our new life

i) To live soberly
ii) To live righteously
iii) To live in a godly manner

b) The world we live in

There is much sin! We must not be caught by the power of sin!

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. The Personal life of a servant of God

a) Many references made to this in Titus
b) Many references are to be found in the General Epistles

2. The Foundational Principles

a) These are taught by the Lord Jesus Christ
b) He exemplified all that He taught

3. The Exemplary lives of godly servants of God

a) Missionaries like Adoniram Judson
b) Worthy servants of God
c) Their lives must be our inspiration

4. Bad Examples

a) Unfortunately, there are bad examples
b) These must be avoided
c) These are written about

i) In the Psalms (Psalms, 36, 55 etc.)
ii) In the Epistles (1 Timothy 4; 2 Timothy 3 etc.)

5. Our Challenge

a) Let us be challenged to reject a life marked by sin
b) Let us seek to live a life of godliness
