WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 21 February 2021

 

Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION
11  In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,
12  that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:11-12

 

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. In Him

a) This is a much-repeated phrase in Ephesians
b) The reference is to the Lord Jesus Christ

2. An inheritance in Christ

a) This inheritance is written in both the Old and New Testaments
b) Features include:

i) Eternal life
ii) God’s Spirit given to us
iii) Precious promises
iv) Grace and mercy
v) Hope and strength

3. The blessings all fit into God’s Will

a) All have been predestined
b) There is a divine purpose behind all the plans of God
c) His will is made out of wise counsel

4. The Commencement of our faith-relationship with God

a) It begins with trust in the Lord
b) This is our faith-journey

i) Faith in the Lord Jesus as the Son of God
ii) As our Saviour and Lord
iii) As our Teacher and Master

5. The praise of God’s glory

a) Everything should be done with God’s glory in mind
b) Our very life must reflect His glory

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. Our inheritance in Christ

a) This includes power for life and ministry
b) This further includes the Lord enabling us:

i) To become better preachers
ii) To become better teachers
iii) To become more fruitful in ministry

2. Bringing glory to God

a) Let us be more conscious of this
b) Let us never seek glory for ourselves
c) Let us desire to bring great glory to God
d) May we deeply committed to developing out gifts given to us as part of our inheritance

May the Lord bless the work of our hands and establish it!
