WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 13 MARCH 2022

Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of
righteousness,

Ephesians 6:14

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. Stand

a) To stand up against the enemy
b) To stand up to fight for the Lord
c) Battles are not won sitting down!

2. The first piece of armour: The Belt of Truth
Having girded your waist with truth

a) Before standing can be done
One must be girded

b) The belt of truth must be worn

3. What is the belt of truth?

Paul wrote about how he ministered at Thessalonica. Take time to read this word carefully.

3 For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.
4 But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so
we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.
5 For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for
covetousness—God is witness.
6 Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might
have made demands as apostles of Christ. 1 Thessalonians 2:3-6

a) No error
b) No uncleanness
c) No deceit
d) No flattery
e) No cloak of covetousness

4. The Second piece of armour: The Breastplate of Righteousness

a) There must be imputed righteousness to begin with

i) Given by the Lord through faith
ii) This is Salvation given to us

b) There must be cultivation of personal righteousness

i) This is Sanctification
ii) This is the continuing work of the Holy Spirit in us

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. Let us check our understanding of these 2 pieces of armour
2. Truth

a) Do we know the word of truth?
b) Do we always speak words of truth?

3. Righteousness

a) This must be cultivated diligently
b) We must wear this piece of armour well!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charles Tan
