WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 12 December 2021

 

Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children
of light
9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
10 Finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:8-10

 

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. Once darkness

a) We must never forget how we were in darkness in the past
b) In darkness:

i) No light
ii) Being in darkness is to be unable to see anything
iii) Grave danger in darkness

2. But now you are light in the Lord

a) The Lord gave us light

i) Light of salvation
ii) Light to walk safely

b) Light in the Lord

i) We have a permanent light
ii) We are to be the light of the world

3. Bearing fruit of the Spirit

a) This is similar to Galatians 5:22-23

b) This is a reminder
c) Consider the areas in which we are to bear fruit

i) Goodness
ii) Righteousness
iii) Truth

4. Finding out what is acceptable to the Lord

a) Nothing is to be taken for granted
b) What is acceptable?

i) Check the Scriptures
ii) Clear examples are found in the Lord’s word

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. Walk as children of Light

a) The word “walk”
b) It means “a way of life”

2. We are called

a) Children of God
b) Children of light

3. Let us seek to fulfill what the Lord has called us to do as His servants!
4. Let us seek to be Light to our congregation!
