WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 1 August 2021

 

Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION
14  For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15  from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

Ephesians 3:14-15

 

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

1. Prayers of Paul

a) There is so much to learn from him
b) This is the second intercessory prayer in Ephesians
c) The first prayer is found in Ephesians 1

2. For this reason

a) Paul was always well-motivated
b) Motivation helps us to pray better
c) For this reason

i) A good principle
ii) A good practice

d) When we pray, let’s find a reason to pray!

3. I bow my knees

a) Paul never took prayer for granted
b) Bowing the knees speaks of:

i) Humility
ii) Submission
iii) Obedience

c) This is how we must pray too

4. To the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ

a) All prayers are to be directed to God the Father
b) More than this basic understanding:

i) There is a strong relationship as a child of God
ii) So few have a meaningful relationship with the Father sadly

5. From whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named

a) We are all related as a whole family

i) Heaven
ii) Earth

b) We are all the children of God the Father

i) There should be awe
ii) There should be appreciation

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. Check our prayer life

a) Our personal prayers
b) Our intercessory prayers

Let us improve our prayer life!

2. Cultivate a strong relationship with God

a) In humility
b) In a heartfelt relationship with God our Father
c) In faith and love
