BTS PASTORAL LETTER 30 January 2022

 

Text: Psalm 30

Dear Brethren,

 

MEDITATION
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Psalm 30:11-12

 

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. Sad circumstances of life

a) From mourning
b) From sackcloth
c) These are associated with:

i) Terrible disasters
ii) Death

d) Life can then take a down turn

i) Life can become even more miserable
ii) With no hope in sight

2. Consequences when God comes into our life

a) Dancing

i) As an expression of Joy
ii) Consider the dance of Joy when Israel came out from Egypt
iii) This is recorded in Exodus 15:20-21

b) Clothed with gladness

i) Symbolic meaning
ii) Gladness is a festive garment

3. The glory that God gives

a) Does God give man glory?
Yes!
b) God gave much glory to King David
c) What was that glory?

i) In being a great king
ii) In his victories
iii) In the majesty of his reign as king

 

APPLICATION IN LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Life

a) There may be problems
b) But God can help us overcome all problems

2. The Blessings of God

a) Make a list of God’s blessings noted in Psalm 30
b) There are a number of blessings!

3. Let us emulate the example of David

a) Let us sing to the Lord and not be silent
b) Let us offer songs of praise and thanksgiving always!
