BTS PASTORAL LETTER 30 March 2020

 

Text: Psalm 9:13-14
Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION
13  Have mercy on me, O LORD!
Consider my trouble from those who hate me,
You who lift me up from the gates of death,
14  That I may tell of all Your praise
In the gates of the daughter of Zion.
I will rejoice in Your salvation.
Psalm 9:13-14

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. Troubles in life
a) They are to be expected
b) Sometimes these troubles can be:
i) Personal
ii) Serious
2. Dangerous people
a) They are wicked
b) Hate fills their heart
3. Dire consequences
a) We may at the gates of death
b) We may despair that we may die at the hands of enemies
4. The best and wisest thing to do:
a) Seek the mercy of the LORD

b) Seek God’s favour
5. Some possible results
a) That God would give His “salvation” (that is, “deliverance”)
b) That we may be delivered from death
6. Anticipation of celebration of God’s deliverance
a) To rejoice in God’s salvation
b) To sing the praises of God in the gates of the daughters of Zion
i) Zion is the symbolic-spiritual name for Jerusalem
ii) Daughters of Zion
This is a term of affection
iii) This is a reference to the gentle believers whom God loves dearly

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Never do the following:
a) Never yield to fear
b) Never yield to dismay
2. Always choose:
a) To pray
b) To seek God’s mercy
c) To sing praises to God
d) To live triumphantly
