BTS PASTORAL LETTER 13 April 2020

 

Text: Psalm 9:18-20

Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
18  For the needy shall not always be forgotten; The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.
19  Arise, O LORD, Do not let man prevail;Let the nations be judged in Your sight.
20  Put them in fear, O LORD, That the nations may know themselves to be but men.
Psalm 9:18-20

 

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. The needy and the poor
a) These exist in every country
b) How do people become needy and poor?
i) Because of difficult circumstances in life
ii) Because of oppression
iii) Because of evil that exists in the world

2. Expectations of the poor
a) It is birthed in faith
b) It is sustained by hope
c) It is prayed for with expectancy in the heart

3. A prayer from the heart in response
a) That God would take action
b) That God would come forth to judge all wicked nations

c) That man may not prevail
i) That wicked men may not prevail
ii) That evil may not triumph
d) That God may put a healthy sense of fear in the heart of men
i) That they may recognize that they are but mortal men
ii) That they may know their limitations
iii) That they may know that they are not gods!

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Concern for the poor and needy
a) Let us never despise them
b) Let us have a heart of compassion for those who are in need

2. Cultivation of a more meaningful prayer life and ministry
a) Let us be moved to pray meaningfully
b) Let us learn to pray with greater faith
i) Against the wicked
ii) For the righteous to be protected and blessed

3. Continued growth
a) Let us seek to grow
i) Our knowledge
ii) Our faith
b) Take time to review Psalm 9
