RETURNING IN GLORY
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. Matthew 25:31
1. The Son of Man
a) It is an Identification
b) It is also a title
2. It is a Prophecy waiting to be fulfilled
13 “I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him.
14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed. Daniel 7:13-14
3. His glory
a) Holy angels attend Him
b) The cherubim in the Book of Ezekiel
c) He will be sitting on His throne of glory
THE SEPARATION OF THE SHEEP AND THE GOATS
32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another,
as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Matthew 25:32-33
1. All nations would be gathered before Him
2. He will separate the sheep from the goats
COMMENDATION OF THE SHEEP
34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father,
inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Matthew 24:34-36
1. The Son of Man is referred to as “The King”
a) By divine appointment
b) Fulfilment of prophecy
2. He will commend the sheep
a) “Blessed of My Father”
b) “Inherit the kingdom prepared for you
From the foundation of the world”
3. Reasons for the commendation
35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Matthew 24:35-36
THE SURPRISE OF THE RIGHTEOUS
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you,
inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Matthew 24:37-40
1. The righteous express surprise
2. When did they minister to the Lord?
3. Insofar as they did these kind deeds, they ministered to the Lord Jesus
DISMISSING THE GOATS
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me,
you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will answer [Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or
thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you,
inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 24:41-46
1. The unrighteous
2. They have shown no concern for anyone but themselves
3. An eternity of separation from the Lord is their just punishment
CONCLUSION
1. The Lord will return as Judge
2. Let us seek to live righteously
3. Let our deeds for the Lord shine for the glory of God
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
