INTRODUCTION

1. David included testimonies in his Psalm

2. He did not reveal the names of those who testified of God’s goodness

3. He began to reflect on the truths that he had learned as he pondered over the Lord’s grace and mercy manifested

 

LOOKING UP TO THE LORD

5 They looked to Him and were radiant,

And their faces were not ashamed.

6 This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him,

And saved him out of all his troubles. Psalm 34:5-6

1. They looked to Him

a) There were others who looked to the Lord as David did

b) Their looking up to the Lord was not in vain

2. They were radiant

a) Their faces shone with joy

b) Their confident trust in God did not result in shame

3. God’s gracious response

a) Heard their cries

b) He had answered them

c) He was ever the Faithful God!

4. A poor man cried out

a) In life, the poor are despised

b) But not with reference to God

c) He will take the time to hear a poor man’s prayer

d) He will save the poor man out of all his troubles!

 

A GREAT TRUTH DISCOVERED ALONG THE WAY

The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him,

And delivers them. Psalm 34:7

1. God’s Protection

a) God is committed to protecting His people

b) He will not allow His anointed servants to be harmed

2. God’s angels

a) God has many mighty angels

b) They encamp all who fear the Lord

c) He will deliver His own people from their problems

 

A GREAT CHALLENGE ISSUED

8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;

Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

9 Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!

There is no want to those who fear Him.

10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;

But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing Psalm 34:8-10

1. To all who do not know the Lord

a) To taste and see

b) To experience that the Lord is indeed a good God

c) Those who trust Him will be truly blessed

2. To the saints of God

a) The word “saints” is a reference to “holy ones”

b) All who seek to practise holiness are called “saints”

c) The challenge is to practise “the fear of the Lord”

d) The Lord will meet all the needs of life

3. A strong word of encouragement

a) To all who are seekers of the Lord

b) To keep seeking Him with faith

c) A comparison made

i) With lions

ii) They are well-fed because they are good hunters

d) Those who seek the Lord

i) They are better-off than lions

ii) They will not lack

iii) The Lord would graciously provide for them

e) The heart may draw great encouragement from these truths

God’s protection and provision!

 

CONCLUSION

1. To taste and see that the Lord is indeed good

2. To diligently exercise trust in the Lord

3. To gratefully praise and serve Him
